School trips to the winery to promote knowledge of the rural world

For the last few weeks we have been enjoying some very special wine tourists. They are boys and girls between 6 and 12 years old who we welcome thanks to the guided tours for schools that we organise at the winery in Requena and which are proving to be a great success.

We love to see how much fun they have and how much they learn in the workshops we prepare for them, which have the great objective of giving them a closer look at the rural world and the environmental, economic and social importance of the wine sector.

Our wine tourism team has had the support of teachers to adapt the activities and the didactic guide we give them to the curricular subjects of each age group.

The children learn about the cultivation of the vine and the vegetative growth of the plant, as well as the work carried out in the winery. They tour the facilities and are explained in a very pleasant and visual way what happens in each of the stages of winemaking. There are constant games and workshops that keep them active and connected to the activity.

The visit also includes a must tasting, where they are taught to sharpen their five senses to perceive all the sensations. We also have a lot of fun listening to all the ingenious answers they give us when we ask them what the must smells like. Imagination to the power!

So far we have received visits from schools in our region, Requena-Utiel, and soon we will also begin to receive visits from children from schools in Valencia.

This educational experience for children in the rural world is perfect to value agriculture and all its contributions from an environmental, economic and social point of view.

Visits to the winery for schools, an initiative to retain talent

This initiative has a second phase that we are about to activate, and that is to adapt these experiences to secondary schools. The aim is to contribute to retaining talent in the region and to show young people that the rural world and the agri-food sector can offer them a good professional future, developing their activity in different areas, from all those related to agriculture to the different professional roles in a winery.

We are convinced that people love and respect more what they know and that they have taken the trouble to explain to us, to present it to us with affection. We live the wine sector in a very special way and we want to transmit this reality to the new generations, because they are the future.

If you are a teacher and want to bring your students, or if you are a mother or father and want to propose this activity to your children’s school, you can contact us so that we can give you all the details.
