Once again, our wines have been selected by the Utiel-Requena PDO to represent this production area, and that is a great honour. In 2023, Bercial Ladera Los Cantos will be one of the six wines that the Utiel-Requena PDO will take to national and international events and fairs, as a representative of the great wines that our production area brings to the market.

Bercial Ladera Los Cantos has earned its place in the category of varietal reds, as it combines two grape varieties, Bobal and Cabernet Sauvignon. Bercial is also a plot wine, because it has been made using only the best grapes from old vineyards over 60 years old. These vineyards are located in Camporrobles, at 920 metres above sea level, the highest altitude in the region, a factor that contributes to the quality of the grapes. Bercial Ladera Los Cantos is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels. All these characteristics make it a wine of high expression.

How are the selected DOP Utiel-Requena wines chosen?

Every year, the Regulatory Council of the Utiel-Requena Designation of Origin carries out several blind tastings with expert oenologists to select the wines that will represent the DO throughout the year. The wines selected in the different categories receive a special label indicating their ‘selected’ status.

For the 2023 Selection, the first tasting was held in December 2022 in the categories of sparkling, white and rosé wines. The red wines were still to be selected, and the tasting was held in May.

This week we have collected our diploma, an event attended by the manager and winemaker of Bodega Sierra Norte, Manuel Olmo. In the picture he appears next to the winemaker Rafael Navarro, whose wine has also been selected in this 2023 edition. Congratulations to all the wineries selected for 2023.
