If the IX FEREVIN Wine Competition highlights what the jury considers to be the best wines from the Requena-Utiel region, we can say that Bodega Sierra Norte is one of the most outstanding wineries in this territory, as we have been the top winners in this edition.
We have received three gold medals for the wines Bercial Blanco Selección, as the best white wine with barrel; Bercial Ladera Los Cantos, as the best red reserva wine; and Mariluna tinto, valued by the jury as the best wine matured in barrel.
The three wines belong to the DOP Utiel-Requena and are an example of the projection of our work and the commitment to produce organic wines, through a work in the vineyard in which sustainability is the main axis.
Of the three award-winning wines, two of them are from our most exclusive brand, Bercial, both of them plot wines.
In the case of Bercial Blanco Selección, it is a singular wine because it is a white wine that has been aged for 3 months in French oak barrels, something unusual. Made from Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Macabeo, it combines excellent citrus and white flower aromas with the soft toasted notes of the wood.
Bercial Ladera Los Cantos, FEREVIN gold medal in the reserve red wine category, is made with Bobal and Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a wine that has been carefully worked in each of its stages, until it reaches the French oak barrels where it remains for 18 months. The result is a complex and expressive wine, with a pleasant structure, great persistence and elegance.
The 2020 vintage of Bercial has also recently received a distinction from the DOP Utiel-Requena, which has chosen it as one of the select wines that will represent the Designation of Origin throughout this year.
The third medal we have received at Bodega Sierra Norte in the FEREVIN awards has gone to Mariluna tinto, in the red wine matured in barrel category. This more informal wine is made with Tempranillo and Bobal grapes from vineyards over 40 years old. A wine with good structure, fresh and elegant.
