Three of the five wines awarded by the Valencian Association of Sommeliers (ASVASU) in its annual contest ‘Distinguished Utiel-Requena 2023’ are ours, they are from Bodega Sierra Norte. Mariluna white, Pasión de Bobal rosé and Paraje Fuenteseca red have been the wines chosen by the sommelier professionals in a blind tasting. Can you imagine how happy we are?
With this result we have become the most awarded Valencian winery in the annual contest of ASVASU, the Valencian Association of Sommeliers, in which different wines from the DOP Utiel-Requena have competed.
Many of you already know these wines, but for those of you who have not yet tasted them, we present them to you so that you can see what their virtues are, which have been highly valued by the blind tasting panel of the contest.
Mariluna White is a Valencian Verdejo, with a percentage of Macabeo. A very special wine, made only with the free-run juice of both varieties. It is a very fresh white wine, with notes of white flowers, citrus and apricot. Good acidity, complex and unctuous. The current vintage has also recently received a gold medal at the Mundus Vini competition.
Pasión de Bobal rosé is a single varietal wine made with grapes of the Bobal variety. It is a wine of great aromatic intensity, with abundant hints of red fruit and hints of rose petals. Well structured, ample and balanced. This wine has also been distinguished with a gold medal at the Sakura Awards, held in Japan.
Paraje Fuenteseca red is a wine made from a coupage of Bobal and Cabernet Sauvignon, varieties that are harvested separately, three weeks apart in the current vintage. It is a young wine with a marked personality, with an intense presence of black fruits and good persistence. A friendly, fresh and full-bodied wine that in its 2022 vintage has also received a silver medal at the Mundus Vini awards.
The ‘Distinguished Utiel-Requena’ awards, organised by ASVASU, aim to promote Valencian wines among sommeliers in the Valencia Region. The tasting was blind and the panel was made up of various professionals, members of the organisation, selected for the occasion.
