We are plethoric. Really happy because we have received an appointment that for us, besides being important, is very dear. This is the prize for the best winery of the year, awarded by Eduardo Mestres, a great expert in the world of wine and father of the current Mostra Proava de Vins i Aliments.
Mestres has valued the trajectory of Bodega Sierra Norte, with our 20 years recently completed, as well as the projection that we have ahead, especially for the great commitment to wine tourism that has led us to the construction of a winery in the village of Calderón (Requena – Valencia) and the restoration of the ‘Casa Calderón’ farm, built in 1900, annexed to the new winery, with the intention of converting it into a living museum of wine and its culture. The first phase of this great work will conclude next spring and then we will begin a new and beautiful stage that will allow us to offer visits.
Mestres has highlighted the quality of our wines, specifically citing the Bercial, Fuenteseca and Mariluna brands, and especially Pasión de Bobal. “The Bobal grape is very difficult to work with and with Pasión de Bobal, Bodega Sierra Norte has managed to create a great wine, harmonious and with an exquisite aftertaste“, he said.
The choice of Sierra Norte Winery has emerged from a selection of six wineries of the Valencian Community. A decision that Mestres acknowledges has been complicated, but believes more than deserved.
For us it is a real luxury that Eduardo Mestres, a person with such an accurate vision of Valencian wines, has chosen us as the best winery. We are very grateful and hope to continue maintaining this rhythm of recognition, because they are part of our energy.
The truth is that the last year has been especially prolific, since in 2019 we were the winery that received the most medals in the competitions organized by Proava. In addition, we have also recognized the figure of our winemaker, Mapi Domingo, as the best winemaker of the year in the Valencian Community, an award granted by the Valencian Association of Winemakers.
The prize for the best winery of the year adds to these important awards and will be in April when we can pick it up from Eduardo Mestres himself, at the Mostra Proava de Vins i Aliments. And of course, we will tell you! :)
