All our Monovarietales Monastrell, awarded in the Monovino 2017

In Jumilla (Murcia) and in the nearby area of ​​El Pinós (Alicante) we have a treasure in the form of old vineyards of Monastrell, where since 2012 we are producing wines in which the only protagonist is this Mediterranean grape. And those wines have received great recognition in the Monovino 2017 Awards.

Equilibrio 4 has won a Big Gold Medal. For its part, Equilibrio 9 and Pasión de Monastrell, have been recognized with a Gold Medal each.

The bet we made in Bodega Sierra Norte with these wines was clear from the beginning.

 

We wanted to elaborate a type of wine that let Monastrell speak, that in each sip the fruitiness and freshness that this variety contributes, creating with it tasty and balanced wines, each with its own personality.

 


Thus, Equilibrio 4, from the DOP Jumilla, is a wine made with Monastrell from vineyards over 25 years old, with a mixed aging of four months in second-fill barrels, 70% American oak and 30% French oak. It is a wine that brings balanced aromas of black fruit and sweet spices with notes of vanilla, and that when oxygenated it shows red fruit and undergrowth. In the mouth it is tasty, fresh, slightly balsamic and with good body.

Equilibrio 9, also of the Jumilla DOP, is made with Monastrell from vineyards over 40 years old. This wine has a mixed aging of nine months in second-fill barrels, 60% French oak and 40% American oak. It is a wine with an intense nose, with aromas of red fruit combined with pleasant barrel toasties, soft spicy touches, candied cherries and souvenirs to mount low and moist stone. In the mouth it has a potent entrance, with well mature tannins, good tour, fresh acidad, spicy, balsamic, with volume, frank and persistent.

Pasión de Monatrell, DOP Alicante, is a wine made with Monastrell grapes from our oldest vineyards, with more than 50 years. This wine performs the malolactic fermentation in barrels of second French oak filling, where it grows to six months. In the tasting, Pasión de Monatrell presents aromas of fresh and ripe red fruit, with spicy tomatos of sweet paprika and red pepper, menthol, forest grass, wet stone … In the mouth presents a smooth astringency, good tour and fresh acidity. With volume, fresh and persistent.

In addition to the three medals, we have received two mentions of honor for Pasión de Bobal red and Pasión de Bobal rosé, monovarietal of Bobal of the DOP Utiel-Requena, also coming from old vineyards, made in our cellar in Camporrobles.
