#WorldPaellaDay: the 3 best wines to pair with the paella

In the Spanish gastronomy emerges an indisputable reference: the Valencian paella. Today is already a cultural icon in the national territory. Even an emoji points to the authentic recipe and already has a world day: the International Paella Day (#WorldPaellaDay), which will be held from now on, every September 20. And what better companion for this rice, worthy of international recognition, than a good wine. As for tastes, colors (and never better said) from Bodega Sierra Norte we have selected three wines for an excellent pairing: Mariluna tinto, Cerro Bercial Blanco Selección and Pasión de Bobal rosé.

Mariluna red – 92 points James Suckling

Undoubtedly, red wine is the most used wine to accompany the paella. And, the meat and rice marry perfectly with our Equilibrio 4 (100% Monastrell). In the mouth, Equilibrio is a tasty, fresh, slightly balsamic wine with a good body. Its aromas are black fruit, sweet spices with notes of vanilla. A fresh and elegant wine that is a perfect companion to savor a rich Valencian paella.

Serve preferably at a temperature of 8-10ºC.

Cerro Bercial Blanco Selección – 90 points Peñín Guide 2019

Who said that white people are not for meat rices? Our winemakers, in their tasting sheet, stand out in the marriage of Cerro Bercial Blanco Selección (Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Macabeo) “the rice with bottom of all type, dry, caldosos and melosos of meat”. And among them, of course, fits the Valencian paella to perfection. And why is this white ideal for a rice with the personality of the paella? Because it spends two months of aging in French oak barrels, which gives it a very distinctive touch, and a sublime body. Combination citrus aromas, white flower and soft toasted memories and palate is broad, enveloping, creamy, fresh acidity and interesting evocative persistence. Who is resisting? We do not!

Serve preferably at a temperature of 8-10ºC.

Pasión de Bobal rosé – Gold Medal Challenge International du Vin 2018

The rosé wine, that great unknown, on which some truths, many myths and various prejudices are erected. Well, our Pasión de Bobal rosé (100% Bobal) is ideal for the softest pairings. On the palate it has good structure, tasty, broad and balanced. The freshness of its acidity makes it an agile and lively wine. Its evolution in the mouth is magnificent, with a long and tasty aftertaste, in which the varietal aromas stand out. If a white with Valencian paella does not convince you and a red wine is too much for you, Pasión de Bobal Rosé is the perfect mid-point.

Serve preferably at a temperature of 8-10ºC.

Bon apetit!
